Lab Technician, Greensboro, NC

Kelly Services is currently seeking a Lab Technician for one of our top clients in Greensboro, NC.

Projected Duration : 9 months

Type : Contract

Pay Rate : Up to $24 /hr

Hours: 3rd shift. 05:00 PM-03:30 AM [Lunch: 11:00 PM-11:30 PM]

NATURE AND SCOPE:

  • Position within the Organization: The position is a senior level position and will report directly to the Quality Supervisor.

  • Knowledge and ability to perform batch testing, raw material testing, and batch adjustment calculations for all materials. Evaluate results of tests conducted and approve those that meet all batch acceptance-testing specifications.

  • Work Environment: This position is responsible for a variety of routine and non-routine laboratory operations. Duties will include routine testing of raw materials and production samples. Uses variety of laboratory glassware and instruments requiring a high degree of acquired skills. Required ability to set up and operate special instruments following manufacturer’s instructions with limited supervision. May assume full responsibility for minor projects.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Perform analysis on finished goods using a variety of lab equipment.

  • Conduct sampling and testing of raw materials, in-process product, and finished product as defined by quality specifications.

  • Ensure all product and raw material testing is completed in adherence to guidelines established in the QATM and quality system operating procedure.

  • Precisely document test results on quality control records and maintain records in accordance with department and company specifications.

  • Determine and appropriately communicate disposition of materials tested as defined in the material specifications and quality system operating procedures.

  • Prepare standard reagent solutions.

  • Calibrate and ensure proper maintenance of all laboratory equipment, as needed.

  • Follow all safety and housekeeping procedures.

  • Maintain cleanliness and order in the laboratory by using 5S principles

  • Ability to work different shifts and overtime to meet manufacturing needs.

  • Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with Biology, Food Science, and other technical disciplines also considered.

  • Associates degree in Math or Chemistry.

  • No immigration sponsorship or relocation assistance is available for this position.

  • Background Required:

  • Mainframe and or PC experience and computer literacy

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.

  • Ability to work overtime and weekends to meet manufacturing needs.

  • Ability to work various hours and 12 hour shifts to compensate for other lab techs vacation and personal days

  • Background in chemical plant safety.

Background Preferred:

  • 2+ years Laboratory Technician experience

  • Previous experience in or knowledge of plant quality control practices and wet chemistry

  • Strong computer literacy including extensive skills with experience in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, MRP Software, and strong familiarity of Window’s based programs.

  • Knowledge of basic statistical principles.

  • HPLC, GC, FTIR or other instrument training

  • Knowledge of QC practices and quality assurance tools

  • Familiarity and experience with ISO-9000 certification

  • Experience in the specialty chemical industry or related industries such as food processing, pharmaceuticals, or health and hygiene products.

  • Experience working with detergent chemistry, raw materials and finished goods which are relevant to Ecolab's business.

  • TQM orientation.

PPE – Must have steel toe/composite toe with slip resistant shoes, which are not provided. All other PPE is provided.
