The School of Dentistry Oral and Craniofacial Health Sciences conducts high-quality educational programs for professional and postdoctoral students, practicing health care providers, and the public. The lab fosters learning related to the basic, and clinical sciences as this knowledge relates to understanding and treating malocclusion and craniofacial anomalies. The lab prepares trainees in several disciplines to provide research and clinical services through varied settings, primarily in service to the people of North Carolina. New knowledge is shared through presentations at scientific forums and publication in the scholarly literature.
Assist in animal surgeries (including preparation before and post-surgical care). Assist in the breeding and management of mice (weaning, following IACUC regulations, paperwork for desired matches, etc.). Become self-sufficient in the procedures for genotyping mice. Prepare non-decalcified histological samples following animal surgeries (polymer infiltration, potting, slicing, and polishing). Prepare frozen histological samples and perform cryosectioning. Perform image acquisition and analysis using microscopy. Assist in routine computer data entry and data manipulation, using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, etc). Write reports for experiments, assist in the maintenance of laboratory protocols, and assist in preparation of manuscripts.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Experience with research rodents is advantageous. BS in bioengineering or other biological science is highly desired.
